About us

Co-founders of the Center for Gynecological Surgery in Heraklion, Crete, with a long and successful career in recognized reference hospitals in Switzerland and Sweden. It was their dream to one day return to the place of their birth and offer with their experience, know-how and state-of-the-art surgical equipment that they chose, the same high level of care they had come to know and practice.

Heraklion -> Athens -> Germany -> Switzerland -> Heraklion

I was admitted to the Department of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2002. As a medical student I was awarded two scholarships from the University of Athens and received my medical degree with honors in 2008.

I started my residency in Germany and completed it at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland in 2015. Until January 2022 I worked as a supervising Gynecologist – Obstetrician and specialized in Surgical Gynecology (advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy) in the same clinic, one of the largest and most famous centers for gynecological endoscopic procedures internationally.

Since 2017 I have been a regular trainer in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery in Switzerland while I was the Chief mentor of the first Swiss center accredited by the European Society for Gyneacological Endoscopy (GESEA Diploma Centre, AGE-Swissendos).

In the academic year 2021/2022 I received my PhD at Maastricht University, Netherlands and became an assistant professor (Privatdozent, venia docendi) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. My research interests include the pathophysiology of pain and treatment resistance in patients with endometriosis/adenomyosis as well as the effect of these diseases on fertility and pregnancy for which I have received several awards and distinctions.

In February 2022, together with my excellent colleague Leonidas Magarakis, we founded the Center for Gynecological Surgery with the aim of providing health services similar to those provided in the best hospitals abroad.

In March 2022, following a 15 years career in Sweden, i decided to return to Heraklion, Greece the city that i grew up in order to provide to the local population the knowledge that i gained through out my career overseas.

In collaboration with Mitera Crete, me and my colleuge Konstantinos Nirgianakis, decided to team up and start the Center for Gynecologic Surgery to provide our medical and surgical knowledge together as a team.

My clinical practice is concentrated mainly on diagnosing and management of gynecological diseases such:

  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroids and other uterine diseases
  • Fallopian tube diseases and diseases of the ovaries
  • Dysplasia of vulva/vagina/cervix
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Ultrasound scanning of pelvis
  • General obstetric care

I graduated from the Peirmatiko high school in Irakleio. I graduated in 2006 from the medical school of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki.

My need for learning and my passion in medicine made me to pursuit a career abroad.

I choose Sweden, a country well known for its high quality of medical care. I learned the language and got a position as a trainee doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Central Hospital of Karlstad, Värmland. Early in my career I got interested in minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy). The same need that made me come to Sweden led me to Skåne’s University Hospital in Malmö as a senior consultant and subspecialist in endometriosis.

In my career I wanted to gain knowledge from the top of the top surgeons around the world. I attended many departments around the world. One of the most important is Endometriosis Center of Mario Malzoni in Avellino of Italy where I had a6 months hands on fellowship.

Since 2012 until 2014 I took part in a training program in University of Surrey on Advanced Gynaecologic Laparoscopy. In 2013 I was honored from the European Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy the title with distinction of Gynecology Endoscopist.

Understanding how important research is i started at 2019 a Ph.D. project in the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. I am involved in a randomized trial in a try to elucidate our knowledge in preventing ovarian cancer by substituting the classical sterilization technique of tubal ligation with fallopian tube removal (opportunistic salpingectomy). A part of this project will be my Ph.D. thesis concentrating on laparoscopic salpingectomy for sterilization and its complications and effects on ovarian function compared to tubal ligation.

In the meantime, I am still in contact with centra in Sweden where I travel quite frequently in order to be updated in my field of interest.
